Fishing in the South Pacific

Hi, We just got back from a bonefishing trip using mostly your equipment. Your reels and rods worked very well, and the sling packs held all the equipment necessary for a day on the flats plus room for more. We were very happy with our packs. Leslie’s 8wt Extreme fly rod matched with an Avid reel and your saltwater fly line was the perfect combination for her first bonefish experience. You can see by the smile on her face that she was very pleased. The large arbor saltwater 11/13wt. Could not fit an 11wt fly line once 300 yards of braided backing was put on, so I used it with an 8wt line for bonefish. I don’t think the drag on this reel would be adequate for anything bigger than bonefish or small trevally. It worked well for bonefish, so it will become a bonefish reel. I’ll need to take some backing off since 300 yards of backing on a bonefish reel is a bit overkill. The multi-function headband/scarfs were great, although I preferred the material on the one with your logo the best. I used the VM saltwater reel on the 12 wt. Predator saltwater fly rod. After stripping enough line off the reel for a long cast, I tightened the drag down as tight as I could. Even with the drag tightened as much as possible the small trevally that I caught pulled line easily from the reel on the strike. This was surprising to me. I was hoping to catch bigger fish but would have needed to palm the reel heavily to put pressure on a larger fish. I’m not sure what would have happened if I had hooked into a fish larger than 50lbs. I think the drag on this reel needs to be beefed up a bit. All in all, we are happy with the equipment from your company and look forward to using it more in the future. Your customer service has been great, and we will definitely refer others to your company and products. All the best, Conrad Calimpong.
