Remembering to properly make the fly fishing knots leader to line mostly, is one of the most important steps that any beginner fails from time to time.
When we spend a day fishing, one of the most disheartening and frustrating events that can happen to any fisherman is the line breaking. You are fighting with a nice fish, and the line breaks due to our negligence or unpreparedness.
Why we lost it
We lost that fish because we have not been able to contain the escaping behavior. Maybe we hurried to pull him to the shore. Beginners are unprepared. Signs like this are the demonstration of what we still need to learn. We have to contain our emotions and learn how to better use our equipment.
If the leader broke due to the failure of a knot, we must blame our laziness and slovenliness. There is no justification for the unwillingness to properly prepare the lines and learn how to make appropriate and safe knots.
The fish of our dreams could appear once in a lifetime. If our neglect affects the outcome of this event, we will regret it. Years later, I still remember the errors with one of the most beautiful fishes with which I have had the opportunity to measure myself. I still feel a bit of regret for each of those mistakes. Yet, this should not be your destiny too. I want to share what the best fly fishing knots leader to line are.
The blood knot
Ordinarily, I don't use the blood knot to join the leader to my fly line. But I use this technique to connect the intermediate segments of the leader. Especially when I have to tie two wires of rather different diameters together, it is very useful. The blood knot is surprisingly elegant. Usually, it is the first knot that amateur anglers learn to do.
Before proceeding, make sure you have quality fly lines such as those on maxcatchfishing. Maxcatchfishing offers fly lines for several occasions, both for specific types of fish and for specific climatic conditions. Choosing the most suitable equipment remains a step that you cannot skip.
The first phase of this knot preparation requires us to cross the ends of the two threads. Put one on the right, the other on the left. Making these face upwards, we turn the right end four times around the section of wire below, rotate it counterclockwise and place its end in the middle of the intersection of the two wires.
Now, turn the left end four times around the thread below, rotate it counterclockwise, and insert its end into the intersection. Where the threads cross, you should see a buttonhole. Pay attention and slowly introduce the end in the opposite direction until the end reaches the other wire.
Moisten the turns of the knot with a little saliva. Tighten them by pulling the right and left threads on one side and the other.
The water knot
The water knot is even easier to make. In my opinion, it is one of the best methods to join the leader to the line and also to our flies. This technique keeps the leader from breaking by increasing its maximum load capacity.
Let's start as before, with the two ends overlapping, one from the left and one from the right. We rotate the two threads on themselves and form a simple knot. Let the end of the leader pass three times inside this knot. Then, grab the right and left ends of the threads and pull them simultaneously to tighten the knot.
